We developed a web-based cybersecurity awareness game that blends gamified learning and real-world scenarios to engage employees and drive behavior change. With mini-games and interactive environments, the game promotes long-term retention and better cybersecurity practices across a global workforce.

Overview

In response to the growing need for engaging and effective cybersecurity training, we developed an interactive web-based game designed to educate employees about key cyber threats through immersive, scenario-driven gameplay.

Objective

  • To transform traditional cybersecurity education into an engaging experience that promotes long-term retention and behavioral change, using interactivity, humor, and challenge-based learning.

Target Audience

  • Global workforce across departments and regions.
  • New joiners and existing employees requiring cybersecurity refreshers.
  • Non-technical staff needing practical awareness of evolving cyber threats.

Problem Statement

Conventional training methods-such as static eLearning modules or webinars-often fail to capture attention or inspire proactive cybersecurity behaviors. Employees found the content too dry, technical, or disconnected from real-life scenarios. This created vulnerabilities such as:

  • Weak password practices.
  • Poor email hygiene.
  • Misuse of public Wi-Fi.
  • Unsafe remote work habits.
  • Delay in software updates and patching.
  • Lack of awareness of insider threats.

Solution Provided

We created a browser-based interactive experience where users explore a virtual cyber-themed world divided into multiple levels, each addressing a specific cybersecurity concept. The learning is delivered through mini-games, which simulate real-world threat scenarios in a fun and memorable way.

Key Features

  • Three Themed Worlds: Represent escalating complexity of cybersecurity awareness-from foundational practices to advanced threat response.
  • 12 Interactive Mini-Games: Each level focuses on one core cybersecurity threat (e.g., phishing, ransomware, password cracking, remote access safety).
  • Humorous NPC Scenarios: Characters demonstrate common workplace mistakes, allowing players to identify and correct them.
  • End-of-World Challenges: Each world concludes with a high-stakes challenge to reinforce cumulative learning in a gamified format.

Gameplay Experience (High-Level Description)

  • Exploration: Navigate through digital landscapes, interact with in-game characters, and uncover hidden threats.
  • Mini-Games: Short, focused activities like identifying phishing emails, creating strong passwords, securing remote systems, and more.
  • Combat Mechanics (Gamified): Use metaphorical tools such as guns, shields, blockers, and scanners to neutralize digital threats.
  • Progression: Players earn points, unlock new areas, and gain in-game rewards as they master each concept.
